A successful business story spanning 35 years - How GPS Insulators grew from a family company to a leader in the power equipment market

GPS Insulators marks 35 years of business, and even though today they are market leaders, Vujović says that it was not easy to build a successful company, which today has around 40 employees. The company was founded in the early nineties as a family business, from the owner`s desire to try his hand at entrepreneurship.

- From my comfortable position as an electrical engineer in a social company, I started a private business in the field of food and tobacco products trade. The beginning was not easy - economic, market, political and social conditions were extremely unstable, with hyperinflation and a war environment that lasted almost ten years. In those years, the company was literally surviving and struggling to stay on the market - Vujović recalls.

(Company founder Marjan Vujović)After a period of economic instability and numerous challenges, the owner decided in 1996 to review his business strategy and find an area where he could fully utilize his knowledge and expertise.

- By consulting with experts and considering the market, I came to the conclusion that electric power is one of the most promising areas for business development. This was followed by a decisive step towards the transformation of the company and the start of the production of insulators - says our interlocutor.

Backed by leading experts in the field and thorough market research, the company started the production of glass insulators, thus laying the foundation for long-term development in the power sector.

- A special phase in development is the period from 2009 to 2013, when we became the majority owner of Elektroprorcelan Aranđelovac, one of the most important porcelain and glass insulator factories in the region. That period enabled us to gain an in-depth understanding of the entire production process - from raw materials and laboratory tests to the complex technology of porcelain firing and quality control - Vujović says.

- Young engineers and experts who then developed their skills in the factory, today are the bearers of key functions in our company - from development and production, to technical support and quality control. We correctly withdrew from privatization after several years, when it was the most rational for our family business. That period remains an important and positive lesson that permanently shaped our knowledge, maturity and professional responsibility - he says.

- Our team stands out for its exceptional expertise in product development and quality control, dedicated to following the latest standards and applying them to new and improved constructions, thus providing innovative and reliable solutions for our clients.

- Young experts often take part in the preparation of expert papers and the presentation of the company at international and domestic consultations in the field of power engineering, such as CIRED and CIGRÉ, which further strengthens the position of GPS Insulators in the industry - says the interlocutor of eKapija.

- The company initiated research and development of innovative types of glass, porcelain, silicon and hybrid insulators, with the aim of offering the market reliable and modern solutions for power infrastructure - Vujović says.

At the same time, investments were made in improving the equipment and expanding the accreditation of the independent laboratory in accordance with the ISO 17025 standard, which additionally ensured the highest level of quality control and product reliability.

- Among the most significant projects this year, the construction of a new, modern office building in Belgrade, on Pančevačko road, with an area of ​​5,000 m² stands out. This modern facility, which unites working, production and warehouse spaces, as well as laboratories and zones for the development of innovations, provides ideal conditions for teamwork, encourages creativity and contributes to the professional development of employees - he says.

The successful business story will continue with big plans for the coming year.

- One of the most important strategic plans and investments is certainly the purchase of the Minel Rastavljači brand from Novi Pazar - Vujović reveals to us.

The company constantly invests in business improvement, and the plan is to integrate ERP and DMS systems, which will further improve the organization and efficiency of business processes. In addition, the acquisition of new equipment for the production of hybrid isolators, surge arresters and disconnectors is planned, thereby strengthening the company`s technological capacity and position on the market.

GPS Insulators has grown into a leader in the power insulator industry over its 35 years of existence, but this story isn`t just about technology – it`s a story of family, team and values passed down through the generations. The company grew together with its founder, but also with every team member who believed in it and invested their efforts.

- Today, the company is carrying out a natural generational transition, and the work is continued by the heir Marko Vujović, who was born only two years before the company. He has been active in the company for a long time and is now gradually taking over the company`s management. His focus is the operational implementation of work, the integration of relations between employees and the development of a new organizational structure, all while preserving the family values ​​that form the core of the company - says Vujović.

This transition is only a natural continuation of the founder`s vision and commitment, enabling the company to continue to be innovative, technologically advanced and stable.
