German chain Hornbach to arrive in Serbia – First mega stores in 2027

German home and garden chain Hornbach is planning to enter the Serbian market, the company’s CEO has confirmed.

Hornbach Baumarkt announced that it had established subsidiaries in Serbia in order to prepare for its entry into the Serbian market. Development priorities include selecting excellent locations and acquiring new regional suppliers. The company told the portal Retail Serbia that it did not expect the first mega stores to open before the end of 2027.

Erich Harsch, the company’s CEO, said: “Millions of customers in nine European countries value our expertise as the leading DIY store. In order to convince even more people of our range and expertise in the future, we want to continue organic growth. In Serbia, a country with such a long and rich history and such a diverse culture, we see great potential for this.”

Jan Hornbach, a member of the company’s board of directors, said on the occasion of entering the Serbian market: “In 2007, we opened our first store in Romania, Serbia’s neighboring country. Today, we operate very successfully there with 11 Hornbach centers. We hope for successful business in Serbia as well. The entire project is in the planning phase, so we are not able to make firm statements about the opening of the first stores.”

Hornbach Holding operates with 176 centers in nine European countries. In the fiscal year 2024/25, the group achieved net sales of 6.2 billion euros. Hornbach is one of the five largest DIY retailers and currently employs around 25,000 people.
