Serbia has 200,000 hectares under fruit plantations – Apples leading exports

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Dragan Glamocic stated that Serbia had nearly 200,000 hectares under fruit plantations, of which apples occupied a special place in terms of export value.

– The state will continue to invest the most in sectors that bring the highest value per hectare, and that is fruit growing – said Glamocic during a visit to the Popovic family farm in Bacinci.

On this occasion, Glamocic visited the modern apple plantation of the company “Lider-pro.”

As announced by this ministry, Glamocic announced that a public call for tenders would be issued in November for the establishment of new plantations and the procurement of modern equipment.

On an area of 20 hectares under apples, the Popovic household has applied the most modern protection and irrigation systems, as well as storage technology that enables high-quality product placement throughout the year.

Special attention was drawn by the anti-hail cannon, the first of its kind in this part of Serbia, which works on the sound-wave principle and, according to the experience of the hosts, effectively protects not only their plantations but also the surrounding fields.

The most sought-after apple varieties grow on the "Lider-pro" farm - Gala, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith and Fuji, which allows for gradual harvesting during the autumn and ensured placement throughout the year.
