The Consulate General of Hungary in Subotica has announced that the new border crossing system between Hungary and Serbia will come into effect on October 28 at 8 am at the Kelebija-Tompa border crossing.

At other border crossings, the new system of entry and exit from the European Union countries will be applied from November 4.

In a statement published by the consulate on its official Facebook page, it is stated that on October 12, 2025, the gradual implementation of the new registration system at border crossings, a system known as the EES (Entry and Exit System), began in Hungary.

The system will be applied at Hungary’s Schengen border towards citizens of third countries and involves more administrative tasks at the border crossing, according to the consulate.

Hungary first started applying the EES system at the border with Ukraine.

The consulate also said that the new system did not apply to travelers holding Hungarian travel or identity documents and that they would still be able to cross the border in the usual way.

This practically means that the new EES system will not apply to dual citizens, i.e. citizens of Serbia who hold both Serbian and Hungarian citizenship.
