Turkish GridFlex to build electricity storage battery facility worth EUR 17 million in Leskovac

The Turkish company GridFlex will invest EUR 17 million in the construction of an electricity storage facility in Leskovac, it was announced at a meeting of Mayor of Leskovac Goran Cvetanovic and representatives of the Turkish company.

The company, which also has headquarters in Belgrade, develops container battery system of energy storage which ensures system flexibility, supports integration and contributes to the local economy, says the announcement by the City.

GridFlex will build the facility on an area of 1.5 hectares of bought private land, in a location near the Leskovac 2 substation, in the space between the old Grdelica and Vlasotince roads.

As said at the meeting, which was also attended by the director of GridFlex, Alkin Yaman, the company aims at a more stable network, local jobs and new income for the city of Leskovac, with the highest standards of security and environmental protection, stronger local features and open communication with the city and the local community.

In the coming period, the City of Leskovac will provide GridFlex with efficient coordination in planning, utility conditions and transport.

Thanks to this investment, the City of Leskovac will realize numerous benefits: a possibility of new investments, a reduction of the load and voltage oscillations in the power systems, which directly opens the space for increased connection capacities for new local consumers and producers, the announcement says.

As said, the preparation of planning and project-technical documentation for the energy storage battery system with a power of 125 megawatt-hours (MWh) is in progress.

The deadline for the completion of the works on the construction of the facility is the end of 2026, whereas the commissioning is expected for early 2027.
