The line is 108.1 kilometers long and will enable trains to travel at speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour.
As stated, the Novi Sad–Subotica high-speed rail line has been intensively tested in the past two weeks, which meant that Soko and other Stadler trains operated several times a day.
Construction of this section began in November 2021, and the work included laying down about 273 kilometers of new tracks, including double-track and stations.
Four bridges, two viaducts, 27 overpasses and 15 underpasses were built on the route. For the first time in Serbia, three eco-ducts, each 46 meters long, were also built, which will allow animals to safely cross the railway. A total of 33 culverts and 14 underpasses were built, while 302 switches were installed on the section.
The works required about 8.5 million cubic meters of earthworks and 762,000 cubic meters of crushed stone.
There are four stations on the newly built section between Novi Sad and Subotica – Vrbas Nova, Lovcenac, Mali Idjos, Backa Topola and Subotica.
The contractor was the Chinese consortium of China Railway International and China Communications Construction Company - CHCH, with the participation of more than 200 subcontractors and suppliers from Serbia and the European Union.
Dynamic testing was carried out by the German company Deutsche Bahn Systemtechnik, which confirmed in early October 2024 that the maximum speed of 200 kilometers per hour had been reached on this section.
The Soko train is planned to travel between Novi Sad and Subotica in 41 minutes, while the journey between Belgrade and Subotica will take about 79 minutes. Interregio trains will operate somewhat slower - 54 minutes from Novi Sad to Subotica and about 99 minutes from Belgrade to Subotica.
Today, the ceremonial opening of this section is expected to be attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic with his associates and other officials, RTS reports.
