A city at the crossroads of East and West, with an exceptionally rich cultural heritage, which throughout its long history has found itself on the path of different cultures, peoples and empires, including the Silk Road that led from China to Europe, all the way to Great Britain. This is how Belgrade was presented at the annual conference of the International Tourism Alliance of Silk Road Cities, at which the Tourism Organization of Belgrade (TOB) represented our capital among over 200 delegates from all over the world, TOB announced.

The Alliance was founded by the China Center of International Cultural Exchange and Tourism Promotion, under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, and currently brings together 83 cities from 33 countries, including Belgrade. The goal of the Alliance is cultural exchange and cooperation among member cities through a series of events organized throughout the year in Chinese and other cities.

This year’s conference, held in the Chinese city of Quanzhou, was opened by the Honorary Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, Francesco Frangialli, and the Director-General of the China Center of International Cultural Exchange and Tourism Promotion, Weiguo Zhang. The program, with various panels, speeches and presentations, included the mayors of Chinese cities and provinces, the ministers of tourism of Ireland, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, the mayors of member cities, such as Como in Italy, Santa Lucia in Malta, and others.

The accompanying part of the program included an exhibition of member cities, business meetings with travel agencies interested in Belgrade’s offer, as well as presentations of the cultural and tourist offer of all members.

The event was covered by the Chinese national television Xinhua, local Chinese media, as well as several foreign media outlets.
