Initiative to modernize railroad between Trieste and Belgrade being considered

The Central European Initiative (CEI) meeting, which will be held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, is of exceptional importance, as it will consider the initiative to modernize rail traffic between Trieste and Belgrade and the rail border crossing between Serbia and Croatia, announced the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia (CCIS), Marko Cadez.

Cadez, who is in New York as a member of the Serbian delegation, reminded that the initiative to modernize that rail corridor had been launched by the CCIS and the Croatian Chamber of Economy.

According to him, the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative has also joined the idea, which speaks to the importance of the undertaking for all countries in the region, from Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, to Serbia.

– We will try to revive this route and accelerate the dynamics, because it is important for all of us. The economies of Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy live from it – said Cadez.

He pointed out that a large part of Serbian exports, but also imports, went through the ports of Rijeka and Kopar, which were on that route.

– Therefore, the meeting is a good opportunity to talk again with representatives of all the countries that are taking this initiative and to emphasize the need for this project – said Cadez.

The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia also announced that he would invite the CEI member states to visit the upcoming “Wine Vision” fair, so that a meeting on the topic of modernizing the Belgrade-Trieste rail transport could be held within the framework of that event.
