The preparation of this plan was approved by the Dimitrovgrad Municipal Assembly in 2024.
The plan was developed at the initiative of the investor Vukovic Benz doo Novi Sad, and it covers the area on the outskirts of Mazgos.
The area of the plan includes the existing, verified coal reserves in the Cutuci deposit. They cover the eastern part of the Mazgos coal basin and extend east from the village of Mazgos to the state border with Bulgaria, on an area of 554,871 m2.
Of the 21.9 hectares, nearly 12 hectares will be designated for exploitation, four hectares for the landfill, and five hectares for protective greenery. Measures that the investor must take to protect the environment and the lives of residents are also planned.
– The investor’s obligation is to conduct analyses of the impact on the flora and fauna on the site and its immediate surroundings in accordance with its position within the ecological network, as well as the impact on groundwater and surface water, air and all environmental elements that will be affected by the opening of the mine – the DRP states.
It is also noted that during exploitation, care will be taken to drain the mine, which will prevent pollution of surface water.
