EBRD and European Investment Bank to approve multimillion credits to Serbia for construction of bypass around Belgrade, reconstruction of clinical centers, cleaning of the Danube...

- At the annual meeting of EBRD in London, the representatives of the European Bank for Rehabilitation and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced that they would approve credits in the amount of several hundreds of millions of euros for several infrastructural projects in Serbia - the Serbian Minister of Finance, Mladjan Dinkić, stated.

He said that the priority was given to the crediting of the road and railway infrastructure and that European financial institutions had expressed interest in investment into the development of the private and financial sector in Serbia. He added that total of €140m would be invested into the development of the railway system, €60m of which would be provided by EBRD and 80m EUR would be provided by the European Investment Bank. That project might be signed in June.

Dinkić said that EBRD was interested in becoming the minority stockholder of “Dunav osiguranje”, as well as participating in the additional capitalization of Čačanska banka, since it had previously participated in the additional capitalization of Komercijalna Banka.

According to his words, the delegation of the Government of Serbia had spoken with the representatives of EBRD and EIB about the preparation of the project for the construction of the bypass around Belgrade, in which those two institutions were expected to invest 60m EUR each in the first phase, while the Government should set aside €30m.

For June 2nd, Dinkić announced the arrival of the delegation of EIB to Belgrade, which should consider the financing of renovations of clinical centers in Serbia, for which an investment of 100m EUR was planned. Besides, the representatives of EIB wants to invest additional 100m EUR into preparation of the Danube River for undisturbed navigation, €30m of which would be spent on the construction of a ferry, €30m for the organization of the shores and €40m for the cleaning of the river.
