In the coming period, Serbia plans to strengthen cooperation with Chinese partners in the field of digitalization of agriculture and the application of satellite data in the daily practice of farmers, and therefore a working group will soon be formed consisting of representatives of institutes dealing with these matters, and their task will be to adopt and apply these new technologies, announced Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Dragan Glamocic, who visited the high-tech company Xiamen Tianwei Technology Co Ltd during his official visit to China.

This company, according to the Government’s statement, is considered a pioneer in the development of low-orbit satellites and the application of space technologies in agriculture, natural resource management and the development of smart cities.

– It is precisely such companies that are pointing which way to go - how to put high-range technology into the function of more efficient food production, environmental protection and better resource management. Serbia wants to share experiences and learn from the best – the minister said.

The company was founded in 2014 in Xiamen and has already carried out several successful satellite missions for monitoring soil, agricultural crops, meteorological conditions and natural disasters. Their technologies enable the implementation of smart solutions in agriculture, livestock, water management, as well as in forest fire prevention and coastal protection.

Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites orbit the Earth at an altitude of 500 to 2,000 kilometers. Unlike large geostationary satellites, they enable faster data transmission and more detailed images, are used in smart agriculture, meteorology, urban planning and environmental monitoring, and at the same time are cheaper to produce and launch.

This is precisely why companies like Tianwei Technology see the future in them - because they can be launched in series and work as a network that sends data on soil, weather, traffic or the state of nature in real time. Glamocic emphasized during the visit that the innovations developed by Tianwei Technology were an example of how modern science and technological progress could be put in service of agriculture and environmental protection.
