One step closer to construction of Pambukovica dam and reservoir near Ub – EBRD considering possibility of financing project

The construction of the 30.5-meter-high Pambukovica earthen dam, an 8.15 million cubic meter reservoir and accompanying infrastructure on the Ub River is more certain after the public water management company JVP Srbijavode published the Environmental and Social Impact Study, prepared by the company Arup.

As stated in the document, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is considering the possibility of providing a loan for this project, the project holder of which is Srbijavode, while the Republic of Serbia is represented by the Ministry of Finance.

The estimated construction time is about three years, while the planned lifespan of the dam is 80 years.

The main purpose of the dam is flood protection and risk management in the Kolubara basin, while additional functions will be to irrigate up to 2,225 hectares of agricultural land and ensure guaranteed ecological flow downstream.

The project is to be implemented in two phases - the first involves the construction of a dam, reservoir and road reconstruction, while the second includes the development of an irrigation system in the coming years.

Approval planning was prepared by Energoprojekt-Hidroinzenjering.
