The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment for the modernization of the Belgrade-Nis railroad, on section three, from Paracin to Trupale, is available for public inspection. The project is being implemented by SUEZ Consulting (SAFEGE) in a consortium with EGIS, EPEM and KPMG.

Section three of the planned railway mostly follows the existing railway corridor and passes through Paracin, Cicevac, Aleksinac and Nis, with a total length of about 58 kilometers. The modernization includes the reconstruction of the railway, the construction of protective fences, the improvement of the power, signaling and telecommunications systems, as well as the adaptation of existing and the construction of new stations.

The plan envisages the elimination of 48 level crossings and the construction of 18 underpasses and 12 overpasses, including three underpasses intended exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists.

In addition, 12 replacement bridges and one new bridge, two viaducts and one tunnel will be built, as well as service roads, drainage systems and culverts for watercourses. The longest bridges on the section will be over the Jovanovacka River (162 m) and the South Morava (113 m), while the viaducts will have lengths of 143 and 329 meters.

The section is divided into two subsections:

  • Paracin–Stalac (20.4 km): passes through eight settlements, double-track electrified line with a planned speed of up to 120 km/h.
  • Djunis–Trupale (37.7 km): passes through 19 settlements, double-track electrified line with a planned speed of up to 160 km/h.

The section will have five stations for passenger and cargo traffic, three exclusively for passengers and one for cargo, along with a number of stops for local traffic.
