The construction of the desulphurization system at TENT B is in its final phase, with all civil works completed and successive testing of individual system components underway. The first release of flue gases and limestone slurry through Absorber B1 at the TENT B desulphurization facility has been successfully carried out, according to the Ministry of Mining and Energy. A similar test on Absorber B2 is scheduled for mid-August.

- To date, more than EUR 400 million has been invested in the construction of desulphurization plants at TENT A and TENT B. The project at TENT B is one of the most important and represents EPS’s largest environmental investment. Last year, a similar system was completed at TENT A. Both facilities will contribute significantly to the preservation of the environment and the health of residents in Obrenovac and the surrounding area, said Milan Aleksic, Adviser to the Minister of Mining and Energy, following a site visit to the TENT B desulphurization facility.

He stressed the importance of equipping both thermal power plants, Serbia’s primary electricity generators, with desulphurization systems, which will enable them to operate for longer periods of time.

- The TENT A facility has been successfully completed and tested, and we now expect the timely completion of works at TENT B so that it can enter its trial phase by the end of this year. It is therefore essential that all parties involved in the final stage of construction adhere to the schedule and deadlines to ensure this system begins trial operation successfully, Aleksic emphasized.

- In order to preserve energy security and safety, as well as to enhance environmental protection in the power sector, the Ministry of Mining and Energy is actively engaged in the implementation of projects at both plants. It is our duty to continue supporting EPS in planning and securing the necessary funding for environmental projects, with priority given to the application of primary and secondary environmental protection measures at thermal power plants, he concluded.

(www.eps.rs/2025)
