The construction of the third building—referred to as the “heart” of the Innovation District—is set to begin by the end of this year, with all three buildings of the first development phase scheduled for completion by 2027, announced Mihailo Jovanovic, Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment. He emphasized that Kragujevac hosts the largest digital and innovation infrastructure complex in the Republic of Serbia.

The Innovation District is being developed on a 4.5-hectare site, with the first phase currently underway.

- As part of this phase, we expect the first building, spanning 4,700 square meters and nearly 10,000 square meters of underground parking, to be completed by year-end. The second building is planned for completion by the end of 2026, Jovanović said.

During a visit to the State Data Center and the Innovation District construction site in Kragujevac, he noted that the largest investments are being directed toward state-of-the-art digital and innovation infrastructure, positioning Kragujevac as a leader not only in Serbia but across the broader Southeast European region.

According to recent government announcements, an additional EUR 55 million will be invested by the end of 2025 to make Serbia the owner of the most powerful supercomputer in the region. This system will support advancements in public administration, healthcare, education, and industry.

The district, to be developed in phases, is ultimately planned to cover 62,000 square meters, with 35,000 square meters set to be completed over the next three years.

Envisioned as a creative and innovative digital hub for members of the IT community, the district will also be accessible to the general public and visitors, offering a wide range of features. The new complex will include a Smart City Center for the development of intelligent energy systems and smart infrastructure integration, a Center for the Promotion of Digitization, a section dedicated to bioinformatics and bioengineering, and a training space for students, according to Jovanovic, as reported on the Government website.

The district will also house business incubators, startups, and an artificial intelligence lab, including a center for robotics development. A special focus will be given to the National Center for Information Security and Serbia’s fifth Science and Technology Park.
