Glamocic: Serbia Is Building the Agriculture of the Future

Serbia, a country with a long-standing agricultural tradition and strong agronomic potential, fully recognizes the importance of strengthening its domestic food systems—not only to ensure stable supply for its population, but also to contribute to global food security, stated Dragan Glamocic, Serbia’s Minister of Agriculture, during the official opening of the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4) in Addis Ababa.

The summit was opened by Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy, and Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia. As emphasized by the Ministry, the summit’s core message was that food security is a global strategic priority.

- The UN Secretary-General’s report presented at the summit clearly shows that transforming food systems is becoming an increasingly important global objective. While some countries are making progress, particularly by enshrining the right to food into their constitutions and legislation, the biggest challenge remains sustainable financing and support for small-scale producers, said Glamocic.

He stressed that Serbia is aware of the need to boost investment in digitization, education, and innovation in rural areas.

- Supporting youth, women, and small-scale farms will be at the core of our agricultural policies. Serbia is already investing in systems that enhance the link between production and market, while increasing resilience to climate challenges and market volatility, Glamocic noted, adding that the summit provided renewed encouragement to continue reform efforts and to advocate more strongly for fair access to agricultural financing.

- Without adequate investment and international solidarity, global food security cannot be achieved. For us, this summit is not just a diplomatic forum, it is a commitment to our citizens to build the agriculture of the future, the Minister emphasized.

He concluded by affirming that Serbia will remain a committed partner to all countries and organizations that uphold the values of fair trade, healthy nutrition, inclusive rural development, and the universal right to access quality food.
