Public Sector Salaries Nearly RSD 5,000 Higher Than in the Private Sector

In May, employees in Serbia’s public sector earned an average salary of RSD 111,162, compared to RSD 106,330 for their counterparts in the private sector. This marks a wage gap of RSD 4,832 in favor of those employed in government institutions, healthcare, education, and public enterprises.


According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, the highest average salaries within the public sector were recorded in central government administration, where the monthly average reached RSD 124,583, followed by state-owned enterprises, with an average salary of RSD 121,879 in May.

The lowest earnings in the public sector were reported in local government administration, where the average salary stood at RSD 94,082.
