Head Urban Planner Marko Stojcic has stated that the planning purpose of the location in Block 44 in New Belgrade, where the aqua-park whose construction begin in 2005 and has never been finished, is being demolished, is to remain unchanged, that is, it is meant for sports facilities and complexes. Stojcic said that the position of the city of Belgrade remained unchanged, that is, that apartments and office space couldn’t be built there, reports the Politika daily in today’s issue.

– So far, there have been no request for a new plan to be prepared, and according to the General Regulation Plan, the construction of sports features exclusively, with side commercial features in the service of sports, is allowed there – said Head Urban Planner.

The construction of the aqua-park in Nehruova Street near the Sava bank in Block 44 was started 20 years ago by the company Genel from Novi Sad and the basketball club Mikele Starts, and the demolition of the built facilities was started by the new investor, River City, whose construction site information board says that the demolition will last until October.

Politika says that River City is now owner of that land, but that it is not yet known what they plan to build in that location, because the company has not answered their questions. The construction of the aqua-park had been stopped several times over the years, when certain investors would withdraw due to financial difficulties, and this last happened officially in 2009, when Genel also stopped its activities. This company, to this date, owes RSD 940 million to the Belgrade Land Development Public Agency.
