EPS: Tenders for construction, revitalization of 23 hydroelectric power plants in 2012

The Electric Power Company of Serbia (EPS) plans to announce tenders for the construction of eight new and the revitalization of 15 small hydroelectric power plants in 2012, people at that company told Beta news agency.

As people at EPS explained, that investment will be financed from a EUR 45 million loan of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), for which an agreement was signed in December 2011 and now awaits ratification in the Serbian parliament.

EPS plans to set aside EUR 19 million for the construction of eight new small hydroelectric power plants: Boban, Celije, Braje, Zlatibor, Parmenac, Rovni, Selova, and Vrutci.

These eight plants will have a total capacity of 14.3 megawatts (MW), and they will annually generate 56 GWh of electric energy.

EPS also plans to spend EUR 23 million on the revitalization of 15 existing small hydroelectric power plants.

The plan is to announce tenders for the renovation of the following power plants: Radaljska reka, Vrelo, Raska, Seljasnica, Turica, Kratovska reka, Pod gradom, Moravica, Sveta petka, Sicevo, Temac, Sokolovica, Gamzigrad, Vucje, and Jelasnica.

The current installed capacity of these 15 mini hydroelectric power plants is 17.7 MW, and they generate 55 GWh of electric energy per year. As people at EPS stressed, their capacity will grow to 23.3 MW upon the revitalization, enabling them to generate 77 GWh of electricity per year.

People at EPS also envisage the production of technical documentation for three mini hydroelectric power plants whose construction should kick off in 2012. These power plants are Jezero and Mala Vrla 1 on the Vlasina river and Vodovod Nis that will be built in association with the public utility company Naissus.
