Cooperation of EPS and Port of Bar for safer coal transport – First ship from Indonesia expected in September

Elektroprivreda Srbije is considering cooperation with the Port of Bar when it comes to the unloading and transport of coal, in order to improve the diversification of coal transport and unloading methods. This, as well as the intensification of cooperation, were key topics of discussion by Dusan Zivkovic, General Manager of EPS, with Ilija Pjescic, Executive Director of the Port of Bar. At a meeting with the management of the Port of Bar, as EPS announced, it was emphasized that imported coal from Indonesia was transported via the Romanian port of Constanta, but that in times of poor hydrological conditions, the low water level of the Danube was a particular challenge.

– In order to ensure the continuity of coal deliveries to the TENT stockyards and to ensure that the security of energy supply is not jeopardized in any segment, we have recognized the possibility of unloading coal in the port of Bar. This is a good opportunity to start cooperation with the company Port of Bar, and we have especially considered the port’s capacities for receiving and storing coal, as well as the necessary logistics and dynamics – emphasized Zivkovic.

According to the management of the Port of Bar, the first ship from Indonesia is expected to arrive at the port in early September. It was agreed at the meeting that the transport of coal from the Port of Bar to TENT will be carried out by rail in cooperation with the Serbian partner Srbija Kargo and the Montenegrin JSC Montekargo Podgorica.
