Serbia and Germany have signed the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement in Belgrade, the Ministry of Finance of Serbia announced. The agreement was initialed by Assistant Minister of Finance Dragan Demirovic and Head of the Delegation of the Ministry of Finance of the Federal Republic of Germany Dagmar Kreissmann. The event was attended by Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Serbia Anke Konrad, the press release says.

It is reminded that Serbia currently has double taxation avoidance agreements signed with 64 countries.

The Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement signed between the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Federal Republic of Germany on January 1, 1989, is currently in effect.

As said, considering the time of the signing of this agreement and the changes that have occurred in the tax systems, primarily that of Serbia, and the changes that have occurred in the international taxation practice, it was necessary to sign a new agreement.

It is pointed out that this agreement is of remarkable importance considering the degree of development of the economic relations of Serbia and Germany.

Germany is Serbia’s first partner in the exchange of goods and the fifth largest foreign investor in Serbia.

There are currently 1,014 companies and 100 entrepreneurs established by German citizens in Serbia, and around 800 have majority German ownership. These companies employ more than 80,000 workers, according to a statement from the Ministry of Finance.
