Memorandum of Understanding to be signed between Japanese company Alloy Therapeutics Inc and BIO4 Campus

A memorandum of understanding is being planned between the Japanese company Alloy Therapeutics Inc and BIO4 Campus, announced State Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Marija Gnjatovic during a meeting with Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan Hideto Kawasaki. The topic of the meeting was the concretization of directions for cooperation between the two countries in the field of science, innovation and the development of artificial intelligence.

The State Secretary also referred to the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Japanese company Takeda, emphasizing that the implementation of a pilot project with the tenants of the BIO4 Campus on the topic of using artificial intelligence in predicting rare diseases had begun.

At the meeting, held as part of the official visit of the delegation of the relevant ministry to Japan, Gnjatovic said that Serbia was committed to investing in the development of artificial intelligence in various fields, with support for projects related to biotechnology, biomedicine and smart agriculture.

– We are aware that there is a need to exchange knowledge and experience with other countries in order to create a framework for the safe application of artificial intelligence – explained the State Secretary.

She presented the artificial intelligence ecosystem in Serbia to her interlocutor, which, as announced by the Government, had achieved excellent results thus far, emphasizing that the country had the fastest growing ecosystem in that part of Europe and that the Government of Serbia supported the development of artificial intelligence for the purpose of economic development.

– A special quality of our innovation system is the large number of quality engineers in the field of artificial intelligence, information technologies and digital transformation. Also, Serbia has managed to achieve a high level of digital literacy among the population – stated Gnjatovic, pointing out that Serbia had good and high-quality higher education that was recognized worldwide for the quality of teaching and the knowledge of the people who graduated from it.

The next goal, as she added, is to form interdisciplinary programs as a bridge between artificial intelligence and digital technologies, on the one hand, and the application of knowledge in various sectors, on the other.

According to her, through mobility and international cooperation of researchers and scientists, we raise the quality and exchange of knowledge and experiences, whereby Serbia, in addition to classic mobility programs, is also developing programs with the European Union, the aim of which is to attract international students to complete their doctoral studies in Serbia.

Kawasaki said that Japan was ready to continue the partnership with Serbia in the direction that had been started and emphasized that country’s openness to proposals for establishing new forms of cooperation.
