Project of memorial center dedicated to victims of Novi Sad raid presented

The project of the construction of a memorial center dedicated to the victims of the Novi Sad raid and the Backa pogrom of January 1942 has been presented in Novi Sad. At the working meeting, which was also attended by mayor Zarko Micin, it was emphasized that the complex would have multifold significance, as a place of collective remembrance, education and inciting social dialogue.

At the meeting, it was concluded that the first two phases had been completed successfully, that, at the initiative of the Eparchy of Backa, the Contest for the Design of Preliminary Projects of the Memorial Center Complex had been opened in 2022 by the “Novi Sad Foundation - European Capital of Culture”, on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the pogrom and the title of Novi Sad as the European Capital of Culture, and that the winning design had been selected and the preliminary project prepared and that, in the next period, the necessary changes to the planning documentation would be made, for the purpose of the further implementation of the project.

Representatives of the relevant city institutions, the Novi Sad Jewish Community and the Serbian Orthodox Church are included in the project.
