Construction of Visitor-Educational Center Risovaca Cave begins

The works on the construction of the Visitor-Educational Center “Risovaca Cave” officially started following the organization of the initial meeting with the selected contractor and the clearing of the terrain. The project implementation project, worth RSD 49.3 million, had been awarded to the consortium consisting of the companies Nenad Todorovic PR GEOZOOM, Buducnost Pet d.o.o. Jagodina, Euro Support Group Belgrade and KVM Tehnik d.o.o. Smederevo.

The new facility, with an area of 500 square meters on two floors, will enable a modern presentation of the rich paleontology collection of the Risovaca Cave - one the most significant neanderthal life sites in the Balkans. The Risovaca Nature Monument, protected since 1995 as a I-category natural good, will thereby get additional value and become even more attractive to the visitors.

The construction of the center is part of the wider project CREST - Cultural Revival for an Enriched Sumadija Tourism, financed by the European Union through the EU PRO Plus program, in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration and with support from the UNOPS. The carrier of the project is the Regional Economic Development Agency for Sumadija and Pomoravlje (REDASP), whereas the partners are the municipalities of Arandjelovac, Knic, Raca and Topola, as well as the Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments of Kragujevac, the Republic Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments and the Tourism Organization of Serbia.

The new visitor center is expected to contribute to an improved valorization of the location, the development of cultural tourism and the education of the visitors about the significance of this unique archaeology and paleontology site.
