The power line, which will cost 71 million euros, is the third section of the Trans-Balkan Electricity Transmission Corridor.
The contractor, Kodar Energomontaza, was selected after a complex international tender process, and the works are scheduled to be completed by 2027.
The 109-kilometer power line, with 309 pylons, will be part of the third section of the Trans-Balkan Electricity Transmission Corridor, one of the most important energy infrastructure projects in Serbia and the region.
The old 220kV power lines in western Serbia will be replaced with new 400kV lines, which, along with an increase in transmission capacity, will enable the connection of the future pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant “Bistrica”, which will represent one of the most important resources for balancing the electric power system.
The total value of the third section is around 100 million euros with a loan from the KfW bank of 64.5 million euros, a donation from the “Western Balkans Investment Framework” (WBIF) of approximately 21 million euros, and with EMS funds. The foundation stone of the power line was laid by EMS Director Jelena Matejic, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret and Head of the Department of Economic Cooperation of the German Embassy Judith Hoffmann.
