Air Serbia considering expansion of its medium line network

Air Serbia is actively considering expanding its network of medium-length flights as part of its wider strategic growth ambitions. Talking for K1, Bosko Rupic, General Manager Commercial and Strategy at the national airline carrier, noted that Air Serbia expected further growth outside Europe.

– In addition to long-line destinations, we also want to expand further to the Caucasus region and the Middle East – he said.

Next month, Air Serbia should expand to the Caucasus by opening flights between Belgrade and Tbilisi. The airline company has not had a direct presence in the Middle East since it stopped its operations toward Tel Aviv in 2023 due to the conflict. Before the pandemic, there were also flights toward Beirut and a flight to Aman was planned, but has never come through.

– We are careful not to exceed our capabilities. Especially during last year, our focus was on providing reliable business and ensuring customer satisfaction – pointed out Rupic.

He emphasized that each new route was a result of a detailed evaluation process.

– Behind each new destination is a case study that examines the cost structure and the profit potential. Based on that analysis, we decided whether it makes sense to launch a route and how much time is needed for positive results to be achieved – he explained.

Rupic said that not every route could be profitable from day one, but that that was precisely the reason to do detailed analyses.

– We estimate a range of factors - the presence of the diaspora, the tourist demand, the visas, as well as the potential from point to point and the transfers – he added.
