"Serbian Railways" would have to procure about 2,000 new cars in order to satisfy the needs of the freight traffic, said the managing director of that public company Milanko Šarančić.
He said that, with the new cars, the Railways would be able to compensate for the last-year loss of 20m EUR, which was the result of the insufficient capacities.
- Then we can expect much bigger turnovers, income and much bigger investments - Šarančić pointed out.
According to his words, the railway passenger traffic in Serbia needs another 50 new cars and at least 10 diesel and electric motor sets.
- I think that we will manage to realize all that through the realization of the Spanish credit of 32.5m EUR - Šarančić explained and added that the credit contract with the Spaniards should be signed within the next three months, whereas the contracts with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and European Bank for Rehabilitation and Development (EBRD), in amount of 160m EUR, should be signed in June 2006.
