Chinese giant Alibaba considering construction of logistics center in Nis

In the future, the City of Nis might become a new logistics hub of the internet giant Alibaba, announced the mayor of Nis, Dragoslav Pavlovic, following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese metropolis of Hangzhou. This document opens a new phase of the cooperation of the two cities and leans on the previously signed letter on intent to strengthen “the digital silk road.”

Pavlovic added that, at the meeting, there was also talk about the arrival of new Chinese companies to Nis and southeast Serbia and that it was an opportunity to considerably raise the level of external trade and high-tech and science cooperation.

– Let’s finish our business zone North so that Chinese companies can come and have their headquarters here, because Serbia and China have exceptional cooperation. This could be China’s base. Chinese companies work here. Hangzhou is also the seat of the Chinese giant Alibaba and one of the ideas is for this colossus of global online trade to build a logistics center in Nis – said Pavlovic.

Hangzhou, the city where Alibaba originated, has been realizing close cooperation with the Science and Technology Park in Nis for years now. The park was visited by the Chinese delegation after the memorandum was signed. In addition to the logistics center, joint projects in the fields of science, education and culture are planned as well.

A representative of the Chinese delegation, Wang Jianxiao, emphasized that the deepening of the cooperation with Nis was of great importance for Hangzhou and that there was an honest intention from both sides for the economic and technological bonds to be considerably tightened.
