Serbian startup Vinaver Medical receives investment for revolutionary oncology software

The Digital Serbia Initiative’s business angel network has invested in Vinaver Medical, a domestic startup that develops software solutions for improving medical diagnostics and treatment planning in oncology using artificial intelligence and spectral CT technology.

As announced by the Digital Serbia Initiative, the founding team of Vinaver Medical combines knowledge from physics, engineering and artificial intelligence to exploit the full potential of clinical CT diagnostics. Their proprietary software, which can be integrated into existing systems regardless of the manufacturer, has proven to be a powerful tool for tissue characterization in the field of cardiac and abdominal diagnostics, with the greatest impact in the field of particle radiotherapy. When planning the most modern forms of radiotherapy, it is extremely important to precisely know the density and composition of the tissue through which radiation passes before reaching the tumor. Vinaver Medical’s software extracts precisely this information from the CT scan with a high level of accuracy, thus enabling better planning and safer delivery of therapy.

– The investment we received from DSI business angels is a confirmation that there is room for the development of high-tech solutions from Serbia with application in global medicine. We will direct the funds to support patent protection, implementation of ISO standards and the process of obtaining the FDA 510(k) certificate. The Vinaver Medical solution improves the work of all the actors in the healthcare system - from clinicians, through hospital administration to insurers - and brings the greatest benefit to cancer patients. By enabling more precise and personalized therapy planning, the software contributes to the essential goal of modern radiotherapy: curing cancer with minimal or no side effects.

Their product is already being tested in cooperation with clinics in the region as well as in the US and EU markets, and they are also actively present in the domestic healthcare system, thus directly contributing to the quality of treatment of patients in Serbia.

The Digital Serbia Initiative Business Angel Network brings together more than 50 successful entrepreneurs and leaders from various fields. Since its establishment, the network has invested EUR 1.3 million in 13 domestic startups, providing them with smart capital - financial, mentoring and strategic support in the early stages of development.
