"The development of electronic banking and the use of cards is of great importance because it lowers expenses of operations", the Governor of the National Bank of Serbia, Radovan Jelašić, stated at the opening of both the Sixth International Southeast Europe Conference “Tehnobank” on May 10, 2006, in hotel "Intercontinental", and the Card Fair, which will be held on the same location on May 11.

Jelašić estimated that the banking system in Serbia had developed very quickly and that it had already entered Europe, which can also be seen in the increase in the number of exhibitors at the aforementioned manifestations, where 34 companies from 14 countries will present their achievements in the field of e-banking and banking cards.

- During 2005, 65,000 clients from Serbia used electronic banking services, which makes up 25% of the total turnover. Besides, in the first 4 months of 2006, 7 million payments were carried out by means of cards and 6 million cards were used in 1,000 ATMs in Serbia - Jelašić pointed out.

He also stated that Serbia’s special achievement was the payment of parking by mobile phone, which is the technology that "Serbia can export to the countries of the Europe.

In the scope of this-year "Tehnobank", the "Oscard" awards will be handed out for the first time for achievements in the field of the banking card busines. The laureates of that respectable award are Dejan Tešić from "Banca Intesa", Jasna Terzić from "Erste bank", Ljiljana Todorović from "Societe Generale" bank, Saša Damjanović from "Raiffeisenbank" and Momčilo Pešić from Postal Savings Bank.
