– In order not to jeopardize the outcome of this investigation, no further details can be published. The EPPO must decide on the exercise of its competence when fraud has been committed in relation to EU funds allocated to non-EU countries or non-participating Member States. Considering that the damage to the financial interests of the Union is an integral part of the criminal offense of fraud, when that damage occurs in Belgium or Luxembourg (because the funds are paid from there, where the EU institutions are located), there is the jurisdiction of those member states, and thus the jurisdiction of the EPPO, regardless of where the action took place, i.e. on the territory of a third country – says the letter from the European Prosecutor's Office.
This information was subsequently confirmed by Tine Hollevoet, spokesperson of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, in an interview with Nova.rs.
Fifteen people died in the collapse of the canopy in Novi Sad, including two children. The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment against 13 people, including former minister Goran Vesic, but it has not been confirmed to date. Because of this case, students first went out into the streets for 15 minutes to honor the dead, and after violence occurred, student blockades began. A clarification of this case, which also includes the publication of complete documentation on the reconstruction of the Rail Station, is one of the students’ demands, which has not yet been fulfilled.
