The new renders of the preliminary design for Beo Zoo Vrt (Belgrade Zoo), which will be located on Ada Ciganlija, have been published on the website gradonacelnik.beograd.rs.

At the urban planning and architectural contests for the preliminary design of the zoo within the entertainment and recreational park on Ada Ciganlija, first prize went to Studio OBE (in cooperation with the Urbanisticki centar). The urban planning and architectural solution for the Belgrade Zoo on Ada Ciganlija, according to the authors, is a “harmonious combination of the nature and sustainable design principles.”

– The concept is based on the integration of the blue-green strategy, the creation of a sustainable ecosystem which supports, builds and strengthens the bond between the urban life and natural habitats. This biopark, which is highlighted through the design, is a space which combines elements of a zoo garden, a botanical garden, a nature reserve and an education center. The aim is to connect the nature, animals and flora with the visitors through preservation, education and exploration – the authors said.

Eight proposed designs were sent in response to the contest for the preliminary design, and the commission chose the winner.

The next step is to prepare the full project for this space.

According to the plan, the aim of this project, as said, is for the animals to be moved to a better and more humane space.
