Although the roots of the mountaineering movement were born in Svilajnac back in 1875, mountain tourism in our country is not widespread. Namely, there are about 40,000 mountaineers in Serbia, and this activity is also engaged in by tourists and recreationists.

One of the problems is the infrastructure, which is at a low level, and only a few travel agencies regularly organize tours in the nature. There is also a large gray market, where a large number of incompetent people deal with the organization of this type of travel.

However, as Pavle Pavlović, a licensed tourist guide, mountain guide and consultant to tourist agencies of municipalities and cities, says for eKapija, the potential is enormous:

- Mountain tourism should be the core of our offer. For Serbia, as a landlocked country, the mountains are a basic resource along with "city breaks" and spas. We should seriously institutionalize adventure tourism in nature, for the sake of the health of the nation, for the sake of employment, staff development and for the sake of tourism itself.

Our interlocutor switched from words to actions - he turned the paths he took through Kraljevo and Loznica into two mountain guides. Local mountaineers helped him tour the terrain.

A total of 24 trails (14 in the Kraljevac area and 10 in the Loznica area) are divided into those intended for recreational users, as well as more demanding ones. Apart from the "identity card" of the trails - length, altitude, information about ascent and descent, you`ll get a pictorial insight into what awaits you, through text and photography, as well as interesting information from history and lore. By simply scanning the QR code, the GPS track is available for download. You`ll also find out what kind of equipment you need, and you`ll get tips for safe hiking as well.

- The mountain guide is intended for travel agencies, mountaineering associations, licensed mountain guides but also to all hikers and recreationists, true lovers of nature and active vacations. I hope that this edition will contribute to the affirmation of mountain and rural tourism in this area - Pavlović said.

He added that there are "1,000 reasons" why someone should start hiking, and one of the basic messages is that we need to pass through Serbia, so that we would love it more.

- Nature is medicine, one gets to know oneself better, the investigative spirit awakens in you, you learn something new, you feel good, burn calories, kilos, you feel healthy, you reconnect with nature. People only realize that when they start doing this activity.

He stated that guides are planned for other destinations as well and the dynamics is one guide per year, due to other obligations that he has. The only thing he could reveal to us is that negotiations are underway for a destination in the extreme southwest of Serbia.

- It`s the job I like the most, because it is creative, it involves a lot of social contacts and compromises with a large number of people from different sectors. I do writing, field research. We try to affirm new localities in nature and make them accessible to everyone. We did that in Loznica with the trenches from the First World War, where we even cleaned one trench, put up a sign and marked the path to it. We have confirmed some already known tracks - says our interlocutor.

He also made a list of municipalities in Serbia that have the potential for such publications, and his goal is to visit all of them and to prepare editions of guides. In the future, all this could be summed up in an umbrella national edition or guides for national parks could be created, for which our interlocutor would like to be both - the publisher and the distributor.
