Valjevo connected with Milos Veliki highway – Final section of Iverak-Lajkovac expressway opened

The final remaining section of the Lajkovac-Valjevo expressway has been opened to traffic. This is the Valjevo (Iverak)-Nepricava section, 5.8 km long, whereas the total length of the traffic route is 18.3 km, and Valjevo is thereby connected with the Milos Veliki highway.

The Iverak-Lajkovac expressway is designed for speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour with two lanes in both directions. Over 20 structures have been built along the entire route, including bridges and overpasses. The longest bridge is 180 meters long and passes over a railroad, whereas the road width is 23 meters.

The works on the expressway began in June 2020, and the main contractor is the company China Shandong.

– Today, Valjevo is not isolated, but connected with other cities – the leaving prime minister of Serbia, Milos Vucevic, said at the opening.

He also announced the gasification of Valjevo, the displacement of trucks from the center of Valjevo and further work on industrialization and economic development.

The mayor of Valjevo, Lazar Gojkovic, also said that the opening of the traffic route was an important thing for Valjevo, so that it would not be excluded, but connected with Corridor 11 from important positions.

The Chinese ambassador to Serbia, Li Ming, emphasized at the opening that the built road was only one in the range of proofs of the steel friendship of Serbia and China.

– It is a great honor of mine to attend the opening of the Iverak-Lajkovac expressway during the Spring Festival, that is, the Chinese New Year. There is a Chinese proverb that says that the year is reflected in what we do in the spring. A moment ago, when I looked at the plan of this project on the map with Mr. Vucevic, we talked about how this was in fact the first infrastructure project that we had completed in the current year and I believe that it will be a good start for a pragmatic cooperation of the two countries in this year – said Ming.
