Serbia registers USD 60 million surplus in sweet foods trade in first nine months of 2011

Serbia recorded a USD 60 million surplus in sweet foods trade over the
first nine months of this year, up by 27 percent against the
same period in 2010, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC) told
Tanjug news agency.
The country earned a total of USD 141.3 million from the trade in confectioneries between January and September, up by two percent against the same period last year.
The exports grew by 8.4 percent, amounting to USD 100.6 million, while the imports dropped by 10.7 percent, reaching about USD 40 million.
A total of 93.100 tonnes of confectioneries were produced in Serbia over the observed period, down by eight percent or about 8,000 tonnes less than in 2010.
Chocolate and cocoa-based products saw a production drop of 11.2 percent, the biggest among sweet foods.
