Vucic: USA to present decision on implementation of direct sanctions against NIS before January 15

The USA will officially present the decision on implementing direct all-encompassing sanctions against Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) begore January 15, which can create problems with oil supply and have a direct impact on our economy, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said at the session of the Government of Serbia.

Vucic said that, as a consequence of those sanctions, “problems with Rafinerija and Petrohemija in Pancevo and other giants of ours are to follow, which could cause a difficult situation for us.” He proposed for the Government to form two teams, coordinated by the prime minister of Serbia, Milos Vucevic, and announced a talk with the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, at the end of January, regarding NIS, as well as the gas arrangement, the Government announced.

Vucic pointed out that NIS had to be discussed with the Russians and said that “a hostile takeover of the company has to be absolutely the last option.”

– This is a big problem for us, especially in these geopolitical conditions, which will lead to countless problems – Vucic emphasized and pointed out that, if Serbia opted to buy the Russian part of the ownership, that money would still end up funding the war.

He said that there was a good connection with the new people in Trump’s administration and added that they were important regarding the sanctions against NIS.
