Washington has made no official confirmation that the sanctions are to be imposed.
When asked by the Voice of America about this, the U.S. State Department said that the U.S. policy was to not talk publicly about sanctions.
– We remain committed to disrupting Russia’s revenues, procurement and financial networks used to support the war in Ukraine and we will continue taking appropriate measures so that those who enable or profit from Russia’s illegal war are held accountable for it – the U.S. State Department says in its response.
Previously, the U.S. ambassador to Belgrade, Christopher Hill, said that “the risk of cooperation with Russian companies, especially in the energy sector, is long and well known.”
Hill also said that “a change in ownership would bring more peace and prosperity to Serbia and the region.” The Voice of America had tried to get information from the U.S. deputy secretary of energy about whether the U.S.A. was discussing with Serbia a potential purchase of a certain part of NIS, but the answer was that there was “no comment.”
