The project is to be implemented in cooperation with the Water and Sewage Company of the City of Belgrade and entails refurbishment of the Jezero water treatment plant within the central water treatment complex Makis and construction of three new facilities for treatment of waste and process water.
The project works will be financed from two financial arrangements administered by EBRD. The EBRD Loan in the amount of EUR 13 million is provided to fund the mentioned works. The loan is supplemented with further EUR 2,9 million provided as a grant by Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), specifically designated for the construction of facilities for the treatment of process wastewater.
Bids may be submitted by March 19, 2025, and more details can be viewed HERE.
Let us remind that this loan from the EBRD was announced back in mid-2023.
As the Politika daily wrote at the time, since this facility was put into operation in 1997, the projected capacity of water processing of around 1,000 liters per second has never been reached. Instead, it has amounted to 850 liters per second. That missing 15% could frequently been felt in the summer months. Since there was no backup mechanism, this line worked almost without a break, which left no room to remove the problems that led to a reduction in the processing capacity or to renew the equipment in any considerable manner.
In order for this to be avoided in the future, a full reconstruction of the Jezero facility needs to be done. When the refurbishment job is completed, the maximum capacity of water processing and the security of the technical equipment of the line will be enabled.
In addition to that, the plan is to build three facilities where waste and process water from the Makis 1, Makis 2 and Jezero plants would be treated. The construction of those three facilities was planned back in 2008. A project was prepared at the time, but it has not been realized since.
The construction of new facilities is envisaged within the Makis complex whose water processing capacity is 5,000 liters per second.
