Former head of Sapic’s cabinet gets suspended sentence for offering bribe to Kentkart

The former head of the cabinet of the mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, Nenad Milanovic, has received a suspended jail sentence of eight months, with a check period of three years and a security measure of three years, due to the “Kentkart” case.

Milanovic has been pronounced guilty of the criminal act of giving bribe while performing a business activity, that is, because, in March 2023, he offered the fixing of the tender for the system of public transport ticketing system.

Let us remind that that investigation against Milanovic was launched after BIRN published an audio recording where Nenad Milanovic is heard offering to representatives of the Turkish company Kentkart to fix the tender for the new job if they agree to the termination of the existing agreement by mutual consent.

During the trial, Milanovic denied that he was guilty. He said that, while he had indeed offered bribe to Kentkart, he had had other motives and practically lied to them.

According to what Milanovic said at the court, he was doing everything in his power to terminate “the harmful contract” with that company.

Also, in September, answering the judge’s question, he said that mayor Sapic had not been familiar with the details of what he had been doing, but added that the mayor had told him to “do everything [he] can.”

In the meantime, Milanovic sued BIRN for damage done to his reputation and honor.
