Serbian wines conquering Kenya

Thanks to the Wine Vision by Open Balkan show, Serbia has managed to draw attention from Kenyan importers and consumers. During this unique event, which is growing larger and better each year, Serbian wines have left a deep impression on the participants, one of whom is Judy Ngene, the CEO of Galina Kenya Wine Importers and the founder of the biggest wine show in Kenya – The Wine Fair.

– Wine Vision is a unique fair which enables the discovery of incredible wines from lesser-known wine regions. The support of the Serbian government and the fact that the president himself opened the fair is a privilege that one doesn’t see in other countries. Each year, the fair is bigger, and this year, we had the opportunity to see exhibitors from Africa too, which was inspirational. The growth of this event is obvious – stated Ngene.

She adds that there is a very pronounced growth of an interest in Serbian wines in Africa.

– It is also encouraging to see increasingly more wineries from Serbia that are interested in the African market. It is growing and we are ready to get involved in the whole thing – she pointed out.

Ngene, who is already an importer of the wines by the Deuric Winery, adds that, following this year’s fair, her range of products will be expanded to include seven different wines, including a private label.

– Kenyans love wines with floral and aromatic overtones, and many Serbian wines have that style, especially those made from Tamjanika and Prokupac. That enables us to easily place these wines on our market – she explained.

During the visit to the Wine Vision fair, Judy also included Serbian Tamjanika in hew “Lolie Wines” line, which she distributes across Africa.

Kenya is proving to be an ideal market for wines with floral, aromatic and unique flavors, which is one of the reasons why Serbian wines are loved in that part of the world, and in the coming period, the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia will realize a range of activities to additionally promote Serbian winemakers in Kenya.
