Puratos factory opens in Kragujevac – EUR 7 million invested

The Belgian company Puratos, which has been operating in Serbia for 30 years, today opened a factory in Kragujevac, and EUR 7 million was invested in the construction and equipping of the new facility for the production of margarine, as well as powdered products, whereas 15 workers were employed. As emphasized, the investment will additionally strengthen the presence of Puratos in Serbia and is an important step toward the further development of the local economy and the industry of baking, pastry and chocolate products.

– We are extremely proud that the new factory will enable the production of an expanded range of products and even better products for our customers – stated the general manager of Puratos Serbia, Aleksandra Radicevic.

The CEO of Puratos Group, Pierre Tossut, said that the new modern facility and the expansion of production capacities “enables the company to position itself as a key player in the Western Balkans in this sector.”

It has been said that, during the construction, exclusively local subcontractors were hired, and the factory is equipped with modern technology which enables an annual reduction of energy consumption equivalent to the consumption of 100 households in Serbia, whereas the emission of carbon dioxide has been reduced to the level which matches the annual emission of 40 diesel cars which travel 30,000 kilometers.

The margarine production line has been automated, and as said, the technology will enable the use of modern packaging, including the HDPE blue foil which better preserves the properties of the products and improves their safety.

Also, new packaging for powdered products has been introduced, made from unbleached paper, harmonized with the global Puratos sustainability standards.

The factory in Kragujevac is part of the international Puratos Group from Belgium, which employs more than 10,000 people in 84 branch offices and 74 factories in the world, which sells its food products for the baking, pastry and chocolate industries in 135 countries.
