The Government of Serbia has adopted the decision on the removal of the status of cultural goods for the buildings of the General Staff and the Defense Ministry in Belgrade.

As specified in the decision which was signed by the prime minister of Serbia, Milos Vucevic, several days ago, the two buildings, which are located in the territory of the municipality of Savski Venac in Belgrade, at 33-41 Kneza Milosa Street, on the cadaster parcels nos. 804/2 and 969, in the cadaster municipality of Savski Venac, state-owned, are stripped off their status of cultural goods and deleted from the register of immovable cultural goods.

This decision was announced on November 15, and it comes into effect on the eighth day from the publication in the Official Gazette.

From the day that the decision comes into effect, the Decision on defining the two buildings as cultural monuments no longer applies either.

The most recent decision of the government practically enables the realization of the announced construction of a complex with a hotel, 1,500 apartments and a museum in the General Staff building location.

The complex is to be built by Affinity Global Development, which belongs to Jared Kushner, the newly elected U.S. president Donal Trump’s son-in-law. In May, this company signed with the Ministry of Construction the Agreement on the revitalization of the complex of the former Yugoslav Federal Secretariat for National Defense (SSNO).
