The Air Traffic Agreement between the governments of Serbia and Uganda was signed in Nis within the first session of the mixed Trade Cooperation Commission of the two countries. The meeting was held in the Town Hall, and the memo from the session was signed by the minister of domestic and foreign trade of Serbia, Tomislav Momirovic, and the minister of state for trade of Uganda, General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi.

The Air Traffic Agreement was signed by the director of the Civil Aviation Directorate of Serbia, Mirjana Cizmarov, and the senior air transport officer of Uganda, Aggrey Tumusiime.

Momirovic said that the signing of the Air Traffic Agreement was the first step toward bringing the economies of the two countries closer together.

– I am convinced that, in the next period, we will considerably increase our trade cooperation and increase the number of investments. Serbia is dedicated to strengthening friendships throughout the world, and especially on the African continent – stated Momirovic.

According to him, the trade between Serbia and Uganda in the past period has not been stable, going up to EUR 65 million a year.

– I believe that our task in the coming years has to be to have the trade surpass the amount of EUR 100 million and continue growing – said Momirovic.

Uganda and Serbia, Momirovic added, have a widespread network of free trade agreements which can be used.

– It is up to us to incite private investors to expand their operations, to develop the economies of our states and I am convinced that, following this meeting, we will manage to do so. We and our friends from Uganda want to use our countries as the bases for further expansion in both Europe and eastern Africa – stated Momirovic.

He said that Uganda and Serbia had very good political relations, especially after the visit of the president of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa, to Belgrade in July of the previous year.

Serbia, added Momirovic, is grateful to Uganda for respecting its sovereignty and for supporting Serbia at the United Nations by withholding its vote during the voting on the Srebrenica resolution.

The minister of state for trade of Uganda, General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi. said that the meeting and the signing of the Air Traffic Agreement were a new beginning and the first step toward the revitalization of the agreement between Yugoslavia and Uganda, signed in 1963.
