Lidl plans to open stores in 20 towns in Serbia - Germany's discount store chain in Novi Sad, Valjevo

The German discount store chain Lidl is currently examining about 20 locations, that is, towns in Serbia, where it plans to open its supermarkets. As Blic daily learns, the two cities that will definitely host a Lidl supermarket are Novi Sad and Valjevo.

Those well informed claim that Lidl is not going to open supermarkets sporadically because the business policy of that company is to first acquire and equip locations and then open all stores at almost the same time.

By the way, Lidl registered a company in Serbia on 22 December 2010. The company's founder is Lidl Srbija Supermarketi, whereas the equity capital amounts to EUR 20,000. People at the Lidl headquarters in Germany confirmed for Blic last month that they were examining "conditions and opportunities in several countries, including Serbia."

It was speculated in late May 2011 that the market chain would open its first discount store in Serbia in Novi Sad because, as the media reported, a lot on Futoski Put road had drawn the attention of Lidl. Newspapers also wrote it would not be Lidl's only facility in that city. However, that information has never been officially confirmed either by this company or by the city authorities of Novi Sad.
