He explained that the renovation of the remaining hydropower plants is under wraps, whereas the Upper Drina project is being developed with PE Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske, EPS announced.
Zarkovic emphasized that EPS is considering the possibilities of battery energy storage and hydrogen use. In order to reach zero emissions by 2050, balancing capacities are required. The executive director for the power portfolio stated that in August of last year, Serbia conducted successful auctions for renewable energy sources and that the second round of these auctions is currently being prepared.
- Thanks to those auctions, contracts for 750 megawatts were signed, or are in the last phase of signing. Together with power plants that have feed-in tariffs, this will enable the production of 4.5 terawatt-hours of electricity - Zarkovic pointed out.
He said that EPS is finalizing a transformation plan that will ensure a higher level of corporate governance, along with the professionalization of management.
