New 21 km of highway, in the northern branch of Corridor 10 through Serbia, from Backa Topola to Feketic, is opened today. Company Corridors of Serbia has announced that the remaining sections of the highway from Horgos to Novi Sad will be involved in traffic by the end of September.

In the presence of Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Milutin Mrkonjic, the section from 50th to 71st kilometer was opened, starting from the Hungarian border to Novi Sad.

This section was built by companies Roads Uzice, Belgrade Planum and Borovica transport from Ruma, and the construction of the highway included the construction of a bridge at the 59th kilometer.

Mrkonjić congratulated the builders on a well done job, by announcing that the new bridge over the Danube near Beska will be opened for traffic on 15th September.

Mrkonjić said that the construction of Corridor 10 in Serbia will remain a government priority and that there would be more work for construction companies that built the highway on the northern branch, since they showed expertise. Those companies received an advance of 35 percent of the price of works and the remaining 65 percent should be given within 30 months from the date of completion of individual sections.

Director of the Corridors of Serbia, Mihajlo Misic, told reporters that the remaining two sections, in the total length of 14 kilometers, from the Feketić to Srbobran, on the route of the highway from Horgos to Novi Sad, will be opened by the end of next month and that the bypass around Novi Sad should be completed by December.

Misic said that "Y" branch, or bypass around Subotica to Kelebija, should be completed by the beginning of next year.

Misic said that it had previously been announced that the highway Horgos - Novi Sad would be opened by the end of August, but that term has slightly been extended due to recent protests of Nibens groups road workers, who have actually been excluded from the deal due to problems in the business system.
