Exploitation of the ore deposits in Coka Marin mine near Majdanpek, the richest gold mine in Europe, started Saturday, after all technological tests were done.

According to the words of Blagoje Spaskovski, the director general of Mining-Smelter Basin (RTB) Bor, one tonne of ore in that mine, which operates as part of RTB Bor, contains an average of ten grams of gold.

- Each mine with over 2 grams of gold per tonne of ore is considered a gold mine. Coka Marin has an average of over 10 grams of gold per tonne of ore, and we have even found 64 grams of gold per tonne of ore in certain sections of the mine - Spaskovski said to the press.

He stressed that the profit from the three-year exploitation of gold ore deposits in Coka Marin mine would amount to USD 50 million, which would significantly help the development of RTB Bor.

As Spaskovski explained, the ore extracted from Coka Marin mine will be processed in Majdanpek and the obtained concentrate will then be sent to a smelter in Kazakhstan.

The former management of RTB Bor made a decision in 2003, in association with the Mining and Metallurgy Institute, to melt that concentrate in the smelter in Bor, which caused about 200 tonnes of harmful matters out of 8,920 tonnes of concentrate to fall on that town, Spaskovski explained.

- The management I am heading will always put ecology before economy - Spaskovski pointed out.
