The rulebook on old-timers, that is, on determining the status of vehicles of historic importance, has been completed and sent to other ministries for approval, stated the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, and added that the rulebook would solve all the problems regarding old-timers.

– It takes a week or two to get approval from all the ministries, following which the rulebook will be forwarded to the government, so the act will be adopted – Vesic said on the “Sat” TV show on RTS.

He reminded that the amendments to the Law on Traffic Safety had come into effect in September and that the ministry he is heading had an obligation to adopt five new rulebooks, some of which, he says, are already adopted, while others are in the process of being adopted. Vesic said that the rulebook on old-timers would solve all the problems regarding that type of vehicle and added that the Traffic Safety Agency would be authorized to categorize, that is, run a list of all those vehicles.

Vesic said that the Ministry of the Interior would be able to register such vehicles according to its own rulebook, which would be prepared after the adoption of the rulebook on old-timers.

He said that all vehicles of historic importance would thereby be categorized and noted that those were vehicles that had been either produced or registered at least 30 years before, drivable and looking they way they had three decades before, or featuring minor modifications compared to the original.

– That is why the Traffic Safety Agency will prepare the categorization and determine the criteria under which certain cars can become monuments of technical culture – Vesic said and added that it was also very important for the museum and for keeping such cars in private ownership.

He said that old-timers would be protected that way and added that Serbia was the only country in the area which, unfortunately, didn’t have such a rulebook, while having plenty of old-timers and citizens who loved them. When asked whether there would be a possibility of not registering old-timers for a period of one year, but for a shorter time period, since such vehicles were not used in traffic every day, Vesic said that it was a good idea which would be considered.
