Churches, Kindergartens, Schools Among 3,000 Prosumers in Serbia

Close to 3,000 prosumers are listed in the Register of Producers-Consumers of Electrical Energy of Elektrodistribucija Srbije, with a total installed power of close to 48 MW, which means that, in a year, from April 2023 to April 2024, the total power of the prosumers increased nearly fourfold, and among them are churches, kindergartens, schools, announced the RES Serbia Association.

A majority of nearly 3,000 prosumers consists of households, of which there are 2,128. The lowest number is in the category of housing units – only three buildings have opted for this form of the production of electrical energy. Second on the list observed by the number, but by far the first when it comes to the installed power, are the prosumers in the Other Producers-Consumers category, of which there are 753, with an installed power of 30.5 MW.

It is precisely this category that has been analyzed by the RES Serbia Association. The analysis shows that the most numerous facilities are telecommunications ones, of which there are 326, with an installed power of 3.4 MW, and the biggest installed power, 17.8 MW, pertains to 119 industrial facilities.

It is also interesting that the Other Producers-Consumers category features 10 churches, nine schools and five kindergartens.

The Other Producers-Consumers category features 753 producers, of which 705 are legal persons, whereas 48 are natural persons. The total installed power of this category is 30.5 MW. The biggest in this group, and also the biggest prosumer in Serbia, is Toyo Tires from Indjija with an installed power of 7.5 MW.

Markets, restaurants, shopping center, of which there are 220, with an installed power of 7.2 MW, also belong to the Other Producers-Consumers category, which are not households or housing units.

At the same time, state institutions comprise only 2% of the registered prosumers.

It is reminded that the prosumers in Serbia use the produced electrical energy for own needs and transfer the surplus energy into the power distribution system, which functions as a virtual battery, enabling every end-purchaser to participate in the production of energy for own needs, in line with the legislation which defines them as producers-consumers of electrical energy.

In line with the Law on the Use of RES, the producer-consumer is defined as an end-purchaser who has connected their own facility for the production of electricity from RES to the internal installations, whereby the produced electrical energy is used for the supply of own consumption, and the surplus produced electricity is delivered to the transfer system, the distribution system, that is, the closed distribution system.
