5 new highways in Serbia in following 10 years ?

In less than 10 years, in addition to existing highway on Corridor 10, another 5 new highways will be built in Serbia!

According to the plans of Public Company "Putevi Srbije” and authorized ministry, construction of highways from Niš to Dimitrovgrad is in the pipeline, as well as main road "Južni Jadran" whose official name is E-763. The latter will connect Belgrade and the Adriatic coast in Montenegro through Požega.

Special surprise for many of us will be highway through "the center of Serbia”. That future highway section will be connected to Corridor 10. The beggining of the section will be near Pojat and it will go past Kruševac, Kraljevo, Čačak and Užice, all the way to the border with Republic of Srpska and its final destination in Višegrad.

The fourth highway, also, will be connected to BiH, i.e. Republic of Srpska, through Novi Sad, Ruma, Šabac, Loznica and Zvornik. That highway will enable not only connection between two branches of Corridor 10, from Novi Sad and Šid, but also better connection between Vojvodina and west Serbia.

As far as the fifth highway is concerned, according to the announcements, it will Belgrade and Timisoara through Pančevo and Vršac. The "cornerstone" for the construction of this highway has already been laid by recent signing of memorandum on cooperation between road maintenance companies of Serbia and Italy. German and Italian investors are interested in this highway, because the latter have about 15,000 companies in the region of Timisoara and this highway will enable better and simpler communication. The value of the first phase of preparation of investments, which includes elaboration of feasibility study for this highway, was estimated to about 6 million EUR.

However, the main question that should be answered is how to get the money that is required for realization of the aforementioned projects. One solution is a model according to which the part of financial burden should be taken by the State and part by the private sector, whereas the other is allotment of concessions.
